ESG Transformation

In today’s complex and uncertain world, focusing on near-term shareholder value alone is no longer enough to ensure long-term business success. Sustained value creation requires companies to manage business performance to ensure that sustainability matters that affect business value are addressed. At present substantial value is being destroyed by governance systems that fail to address wider sustainability matters affecting the company.

International and Polish market observations indicate that a significant value of companies is being eroded by management systems that do not consider sustainable development issues in their action plans. New regulations and standards (GRI, ESRS, CSDD) contribute to the transformation of organizations' ESG and their value chain.

Best practices indicate that the transformation of an organization's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) consists of three main stages:

  • Assessment of the organization's readiness for ESG transformation.
  • Development of an ESG strategy.
  • Implementation of the ESG strategy.

Stage I – ESG Awareness Assessment and Defining Material ESG Topics: Building awareness within the organization, especially among the managerial staff, is the foundation for embarking on the ESG journey. This action helps identify key gaps in sustainable development management within the organization and ways to address them. Assessing the significance of different ESG areas allows defining stakeholders' expectations for sustainable development and identifying a shortlist of crucial ESG topics the organization should focus on.

Stage II – ESG Strategy: Analyzing the current state helps define where the organization stands in terms of ESG, which ESG aspects can be measured immediately, and in which areas data collection needs to begin. ESG goals and ambitions involve precisely defining medium-term goals and long-term intentions. Strategy map focuses on seeking advantages and opportunities related to sustainable development, with a precisely defined list of initiatives to achieve ESG goals.

Stage III – Implementation: Non-financial reporting, communication of objectives and progress in sustainable development actions, and execution of ESG initiatives indicated in the strategy map.
